Eveready focuses on environmental management through implementing a fully integrated certified management system which includes being ISO 9001 certified.

We are proud to be one of the few companies in South Africa with a fully Integrated Management System (IMS).

Products

As Eveready continues to expand and grow as a diversified company, energy efficiency remains a central focus.

Kestrel Renewable Energy (Kestrel) is a benchmark application which has been used globally to assist customers to become less reliant on fossil fuel generated energy. The Eveready research and development commitment to renewable energy, in particular wind energy, is recognised as a significant global contribution.

The introduction of Eveready Energy Saving Lighting(ESL) product further underlines our commitment to the conservation of the environment. 

Environmental Impact

Through the integrated management system we continuously strive to reduce our environmental impact, initiatives include, but not exclusive to:

• Fume reduction by using naturally occurring elements and compounds (that are less toxic)
• The responsible handling of raw elements found in batteries
• The elimination of cadmium from layer and round cell batteries making them environmentally friendly as well as allowing them to naturally degrade without toxic emissions
• The monitoring and management of storm and waste water pollutant levels
• Vigilant management and segregation of waste products for recycling or reuse include:
  •  Recycling plastics and PVC compounds and aluminium
  •  A waste paper recycling programme saving an average of 100 tonnes of pape r annually, 10,200 trees
  •  Pallets returned and reused

Education

All Eveready employees are made aware of reducing their impact on the environment as well as the importance or renewable energy through a wide range of education and e-learning programmes.

Energy Efficiency

The Eveready story of reducing its burden on the South African grid is remarkable, and continues to ensure that we reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

Eveready reduces its dependence on natural resources by generating its own electricity through its Kestrel research and development wind farm. The current installed capacity is 19.6 megawatt hours annually. This this equates to a saving of 1,951 tonnes of coal consumed, or the release of 2,038 tonnes of greenhouse cases.

Work Environment

Eveready is a remarkable place to work, be it in the factory or the offices; and in the plant dust levels have been slashed through capture and extraction improvements. And, plant noise levels have been lowered by plugging leaks and monitoring where noise is emitted. The plant is now so quiet, we have six ‘quiet' zones.
