Eveready Embraces Cultural Diversity on Heritage Day

Date : 04 October 2017

In a beautiful display of acceptance for all cultures, Eveready came together to celebrate National Heritage Day in a way that embraces South Africa’s rich cultural heritage.

Since becoming a true Rainbow Nation in 1994, South Africa observes Heritage Day every year on September 24th as a way for South Africans to not only observe their own heritage, but also to recognise the diverse cultures and heritage of their fellow countrymen.

In an address marking one of the first Heritage Days more than 20 years ago, former President Nelson Mandela stated that the first democratically-elected government had decided to make Heritage Day a national day because the country’s rich and varied cultural heritage would have the profound power to help build the new nation that was to come.

A number of ladies from Eveready’s Finance and HR departments, as well as House of York of York’s Ironing Board division, wore traditional beadwork and painted their faces as part of this year’s celebrations.

Traditional adornments and face painting are one of the most creative forms of expression for the majority of South African cultures and are often used as part of their heritage celebrations. By commemorating the day in this way, Eveready paid tribute to the men and women who have, and continue to, contribute to the rich heritage and diverse cultures of our nation.
