Now more than ever we need to save on electricity usage and cost.
Eskom has submitted proposal to the National Energy Regulation (NERSA) to increase the electricity tariff for consumers by 45% every year for the next 3 years. This amounts to more than double the current costs on incremental basis every year for 3 years. While this proposal is subject to approval by the regulator, the intention of the Power Utility is clearly evident and the current tariffs from ESKOM are not sustainable in the long run.
The average consumer can minimize the impact of higher electricity costs in two ways:
- By reducing the electricity consumption in house holds by altering usage habits
- Switching over to energy efficient appliances / lighting etc.
As an incentive to promote use of Energy Saving Lamps, on the 1st November 2009, the South African Government has implemented an environmental levy of R3 per globe for incandescent globes. The aim of this is to deter consumers from using an energy in-efficient globe and rather switch to an energy efficient alternatives – Energy Saving Lamps / Compact Fluorescent Lamps.
With the R3 levy, the price differential between the globe (usually selling at R4 a globe) and an Energy Saving Lamp (usually selling between R12 – R18) will decrease significantly and hopefully the consumer will opt to spend a little more for an Energy Saving Lamp.
Eveready offers a wide range of Energy Saving Lamps which have the following benefits:
- Power consumption is up to 80% less than regular bulbs
- Lamp life is up to 6000 hours (average usage of 3.5 hours a day)
- Consistent brightness
- Flicker free starting
- Spiral and tube variants
- Cool day light and Warm white variants
