Eveready FAQ
Most popular questions
The drain requirements of the device determine the type of battery to be used. The devices can be broadly classified into three categories:
- Low Drain devices: - The current requirement is less than 100mA. The typical devices are transistor radios, calculator, sensors; LED lamps, smoke alarm etc. Zinc carbon batteries (PM9/PP9/PM10/PP10) are best suited for these devices
- Moderate Drain devices: - The current requirement is between 100 ~ 500mA. The typical devices are Toy, Motorized devices, Tape recorder, Normal flashlights and Remote control etc. Zinc chloride batteries (Power plus & Power plus Gold) are best suited for these devices.
- High Drain devices: - The current requirement is more than 500mA and can go up to 1.5Amps. The typical devices are Digital Camera, High power flash lights, Cell phones, CD players and other electronic gadgets. Alkaline, Rechargeable Ni-MH and Lithium batteries are best suited for these devices.
PPG batteries are Super Heavy Duty Zinc chloride batteries which are best suited ONLY for low to moderate devices. Use Alkaline, Lithium or rechargeable batteries for digital cameras as they have longer shelf life and have better energy capacity than PPG batteries.
Zinc chloride batteries are our least expensive battery line and most appropriate for light to moderate periodic power needs or occasional use. They perform best on low to moderate drain devices such as Clocks, Remote controls, Radios, Toys etc. These batteries provide an economical power source for devices requiring light to moderate drain because of the use of inexpensive materials and their time proven construction. These batteries are primary batteries and therefore are not designed for recharging.
While both types of batteries have the same nominal voltage of 1.5V, compared with zinc-chloride batteries, alkaline batteries have a higher energy densityand longer shelf-life. The capacity of an alkaline battery is larger than an equal size of zinc-chloride cell because the Manganese dioxide cathode material is purer and denser, Zinc anode is present in powder form suspended in electrolyte ensuring maximum surface area for reaction and space taken up by internal components such as current collectors is less. An alkaline cell can provide between three and six times as much operating time depending upon the type of drain in devices.
Mixing battery types in a device is not recommended and can significantly increase the potential for leakage and reduced performance. The biggest problem is an imbalance in available energy between the installed batteries. So always practice smart battery care and replace used batteries with new, fresh set of batteries of the same brand & type —preferably Eveready.
Batteries cannot deliver optimum power when they are cold. You may find that the flashlight kept in your car, in the middle of winter, casts a faint beam. Let the batteries warm up to normal temperature (15 ~ 25 deg C), and try them again before you decide to replace the batteries.
Batteries should be stored in a cool, dry location. Avoid extreme temperatures. The ideal temperature of storage is 15 ~ 25 degrees Celsius and 50 ~ 60% humidity. Keep batteries in original package until you are ready to use them.
The consumer battery industry has been in the forefront of environmental protection and almost all responsible manufacturers produce products without the heavy metals like cadmium and Mercury. In the past zinc batteries contained cadmium & mercury, these elements were included to increase the battery life but are harmful to the environment as well as to humans.
Eveready has been producing Cadmium and Mercury free products for considerable periods of time. Our products do not pose an environmental risk and can be disposed of in normal municipal waste. Further, our commitment to the environment is reflected in the fact that Eveready is ISO 14001 compliant and we were also awarded the SJM Flex Environmental award for two consecutive years 2006 & 2007.
The key ingredients of a consumer battery are zinc and manganese dioxide which when disposed in conventional waste methods converts itself to various salts of zinc and manganese which act as micro nutrients for the soil.
No country in the world has yet implemented a structure to recycle consumer batteries because of the lack of any major negative impact.
If ever any new technology appears which alters this position, Eveready would be in the forefront to take necessary steps
Please refer to below table for further details regarding disposal of batteries.

Different batteries are manufactured for different purposes. As your digital camera is a high drain application only Eveready rechargeable or alkaline batteries should be used in Digital camera's.
Zinc chloride batteries such as our Power Plus batteries, have many valuable uses. They are a cost effective option for torches, radios and other low drain appliances. In digital camera’s however they, like other zinc chloride batteries, do not supply enough power to be effective. The construction of zinc chloride and alkaline batteries are very different and therefore alkaline batteries can supply the energy for a high drain application where the zinc chloride cannot.
Next time try our EVEREADY Alkaline Plus or rechargeable battery for your digital camera.
